Welcome to Motherwell AC AGM 2005

Achievements

Mac Track / Field LAAA relays: Senior boys achieved Gold on the back of last years Silver LAAA track / field event: Lynne Livsy was first in 100 & 200 mtrs & David McCrum was first in the Shot & javelin Dumfries Open Graded: saw 13 athletes attend with five 1 st s & four finishing between 2 nd & 4 th.

Mac West Districts: Seven athletes attended. Mathew Lynch got into the finals of the 200mtrs Schools County sports: Louise Slamin came 1 st at 200 mtrs, Chris McCrum came 1 st at 400 mtrs and Lewis Mathieson won the triple jump. Louise was put forward by her school for the Scottish schools championships achieving a PB in the final of the 200 mtrs. She was also Sports champion for her year at school !!

Mac Andrew Forest was fifth in the Scottish schools 200mtrs final – a notable result given the stiff opposition Scottish Championships: Andrew Forrest was an U20 Finalist in the 200 mtrs and Chris Love an U20 finalist in the 400 mtrs final achieving a seasons best and a PB. We competed in the YAL in the Summer of 2005 but historically have struggled to put out a full team. Possible way forward may be to combine resources with another club.

Mac Dumfries: Claire Hughes was 1 st in the long jump and 3 rd in the 100 mtrs. Kirsty McKeogh finished 2 nd in the 300 mtrs achieving a PB Mathew Lynch achieved 3 rd in the 100 mtrs and 2 nd in the 200 mtrs. David McCrum was 1 st in the javelin and 2 nd in the Long jump.

Mac Other main events throughout the season include: Annual trip to the Isle of Bute Highland games Three of our Athletes met the stiff criteria to attend the Bank of Scotland Young Athletes training weekend A very successful Open day was held at Wishaw Sports centre resulting in a healthy increase in membership.

Mac Young Track / Field One of the biggest successes of the year was the young section of Track & field. Bob McCrum has worked tirelessly at building up this group, five of whom are in the process of graduating to the older group. Everyone recognises that the future of the club depends on this type of progression.

Mac Jessie Miller continued to pick up a number of vet prizes before having the season cut short with an unfortunate knee injury. A dramatic return to form by Phyllis Hands saw her win first vet at the ST Andrews hospice 6k Experienced athletes like Pat Allan,Mae McIsaac and Gordon Murray all set PBs throughout the year.

Mac Brian McLinden refuses to slow down as he continues to run remarkably consistent times in training and a variety of races The following athletes have all joined from Jog Scotland and their progress has been quite remarkable: Dougie, Ian, Fiona, Anne, Leslie and Elizabeth Benny Hands has finished 1 st vet at a number of local 5k races and continues to pick up prizes on the Highland games circut

Mac Ben Smith (Alias Sat Nav) has finished well up the field in a number of 10 k and half Marathon races both North and South of the border We have 3 club members taking part in the New York Marathon this year: Elizabeth Martin, Gayle Tate and Allan Tate

Mac Team Achievements: Relay results: 2 male teams competed in National Road Relays in March, with the A team achieving its highest ever placing!2 male teams competed in National Road Relays in March, with the A team achieving its highest ever placing! 2 male teams competed in National Cross Country relays in October. Our vets team finished an impressive 9 th !2 male teams competed in National Cross Country relays in October. Mac Team Achievements: In 2004 and for the first time a Ladies team was entered for the Lanarkshire Road Relays and finished 2 nd ! In 2005 two Ladies teams entered the same event and finished 1st & 2 nd with our own Jo Clark running the fastest leg of the day!

Recruitment

Mac We gained new members via: New Motherwell AC Leaflet distribution. (Leaflets Distributed at local events and to sports outlets.)

Mac We gained new members via: School sports coordinators within North Lanarkshire, which gave the club exposure in the schools and a potential future membership base through initiatives such as the Open Day.

New partnership with the Boathouse gym which has become the home of the Road Runners Mac

Coach Development

Mac Coaches sub committee set up. Coaching coordinator: John Hughes

Mac Coach Development: 2 new level 1 coaches both track / field and Road Running 6 coaches training for Level 2 track / field & Road Running 1 coach to train for level 3 track /field 2006

Social Events

Mac Christmas dance and prize giving evening at Fir Park 2004.

Mac There was a big turnout for the Summer BBQ from both sides of the club. Highlights include the water balloons and the how many sausages can your dog steal competition.

Mac Upcoming social events: Mac Presentation evening 25 th Nov,7pm Clyde room, Water sports centre, Strathclyde Park. Special guest Geoff Wightman (Chief Executive Scottish Athletics) Road runners Christmas Handicap Sun 11 th Dec Club Dance to be held Jan 2006.

Innovation

Mac New club jumpers £10 per jumper. Corporate gym members received jumper sponsored by the Boathouse.

Mac New accessories: Winter / Wet weather jackets to be supplied to the coaches. Jackets will also be available for purchase to club members New Beanie hats in club colours

Mac Motherwell AC Website launched No. of visits so far : 1600

Mac Phase 2 : Web site to be run by the members Formation of a Media sub committee to communicate with the press and take web site to next level. Mark Coyle Editor of BBC News interactive has offered his services to the club.

Finance

Mac Grants / Funding Sub Committee spearheaded by Ronnie Buchanan. Awards for All Grant awarded for £4048 ! To be invested in Coaching development & new training equipment.

Mac We received: £200 cheque from Bute Highland games. club development grant for £400 from North Lanarkshire council Funding from North Lanarkshire coaching education budget being used to fund Level 3 coaching coarse

Mac Summary: Thanks again to the committee for their help and support throughout the year. Club has performed fantastic both at Road running and track / field competitions through 2005 Membership is up across whole club Financially club is very healthy. Bank balance is > £8k Club has been entered for the Sunday Mail Club of the year competition.

Mac Treasurers report:
