Teachers Without Borders on Campus An FLC Registered Student Organization

What is TWBOC? Teachers Without Borders On Campus at FLC is a Registered Student Organization, formed in October 2010, which is affiliated with the international Teachers Without Borders group ( Teachers Without Borders connects teachers to information and each other to create local change on a global scale. “A world with well-trained, well-informed teachers is a world with smarter, healthier, wealthier, more peaceful individuals and societies. Support for a single teacher can foster the well-being of hundreds, even thousands, of learners and their communities.”

 We build student leaders because they have the drive, the enthusiasm, and the desire to make a difference.  We provide students with the materials and knowledge needed to impact the educational gap.  We support the professional development of educators by exploring current educational issues locally, nationally, and internationally.  We also support the collaboration of student organizations on campus who share the same or similar aspirations and goals.  Our best intention is to think and act locally and impact globally. OUR MISSION

TWBOC Officers President: Erin Thompson Vice-President: Tess Vanderhoof Secretary: Mandy Burkholder Treasurer: Mercedez Henson Faculty Advisor: Cathie Turek

Some things you may find in a second grade classroom…

Sex Education in 6th Grade at La Secundaria Students were required to stand in front of the class & identify 10 different parts on the sex organ diagrams. While in class students also completed a worksheet on understanding the different phases of the menstrual cycle. The text book for this class, “Ciencias Biologia” also contained information on Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Condoms & Birth Control.

If you’re a COBACH student, you may… Learn from the specialized curriculum and set of text books an Arizona- educated teacher created, complete with start-up activities and exercises… Practice for an annual dance competition against other COBACH schools… Or sing and play guitar between class…

La Universidad Kino

¡MIL GRACIAS! to everyone who supported and assisted us with this trip, including Dr. Linda Simmons, the FLC Leadership Center and Financial Allocation Board, and all the schools in Mexico who so graciously allowed us to observe. We learned “¡UN MONTÓN”!
