Equal Parts of a Whole

Could you divide a circle into 4 equal parts? Explain.

Tell if each shows equal or unequal parts.

Tell if each shows equal or unequal parts.

Tell if each shows equal or unequal parts.

I know the two parts are equal because each part is 8 square units. How can you divide a whole into equal parts? Daniel and Celeste must divide a piece of grid paper into 2 equal parts. They found different ways to make equal parts. If I fold the paper on the green line the parts will match. So, I know the two parts are equal. I know the two parts are equal because each part is 8 square units.

How many equal parts are there when you divide a whole into halves? Fourths? Sixths? Twelfths?

Name the equal parts of the whole.
