Cut each in half.

Look at the drinking glasses on journal page Which glass is half full? Just because something is divided into two parts does not necessarily mean that each part is one-half of the whole.

6 1 4 fourths 1/4 1/4 the 1 tells how many of the equal part we are talking about the 4 tells into how many parts the whole has been divided A quarter is another way of saying one-fourth. A 25-cent coin is called a quarter because it is one-fourth of a dollar. On page 165, label the crackers with 1/2 and 1/4. Circle the rectangles on Journal page 168 that are divided into thirds.

Materials: 1 dollar, 20 dimes, and 20 pennies 1 Place-Value Mat per player 2 six-sided dice 1 sheet of paper labeled "Bank" Players 2 Directions (also on pages 144 and 145 of My Reference Book) 1. Place all of the money in the Bank. 2. Players take turns.
