Milazzo

Some important wines in Milazzo and in Sicily Malvasia: DOC, this wine is produced in Salina, one of the Aeolian Islands. It has been called “nectar of the Olympians” because of its colour, which is gold and of its taste. It has been imported by Greek in Salina.

Mamertino: it’s a DOC wine, it’s one of the most ancient wines, it has been known from the edge of Romans. The “Mamertini”, which means sons of Mars who were warriors during the Punic War, planted in the area of Milazzo this rare wine

What’s a Label? During our research we found out that the label is the most important document of wine.

DOC Denominazione di Origine Controllata (Controlled Designation of Origin). This is a certification assigned to all the types of wine produced in small or medium areas. Wine that are a mixture of grape variety, and that had not been classified between the recommended or authorized or that don’t come from specific vines, and other species like American or Chinese.

DOCG Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (controlled designation of origin guaranteed) This is another certification more restrictive, it’s attached to wines that have already had a DOC certification for 5 years, and that are of very good quality because of their peculiarity.

IGT Indicazione Geografica Tipica This designation is applied to wine produced in a broadly defined geographical region and from approved grape varieties. The geographic indication is sometimes accompanied by a mention of the variety.
