6 Dionysus- Who was he? Was the God of the Vine (the grapevine). He was also known as the God of Wine. He was the son of Zeus and the mortal woman Semele. He is the only God to have a mortal parent (who was his mother).

7 Dionysus- Why was he important? Dionysus invented wine and the art of cultivating grapes. Grapes were very important to the Greeks. The Greeks grew grapes in their rocky soil. The grapes were often made into wine.

8 Dionysus- What role did he play in the everyday life of the Ancient Greeks? Dionysus was one of the most important gods in everyday Greek life. Many Greeks associated him with rebirth. For example, the grapevine dies each wither, and then is reborn each spring.

9 Dionysus- Are their any traces of this God still found today? Many Greeks still celebrate the Festival of Dionysus. The Festival of Dionysus takes place during the spring, when the green leaves begin to grow on the grapevines.
