And its not just that these kids are devoting 7 1/2 hours of their daily lives to media immersion their multitasking means that they somehow consume nearly 11 hours of media content in that 7 1/2 hours of time. kids/

Which brings us to our topic…………………….. Are all of these electronic gadgets toys, or are they tools?

FLASHCARDS FOR iPODS 10 A fun and engaging way to practice facts, learn vocabulary, study for a test!

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING……….. Lets get started! 11 MAKE A FOLDER!!!!!

Making the flashcards 1.Create a presentation in Powerpoint or Keynote (this will take the most time) TIPS FOR CREATING: Use an easy to read font, nothing fancy. Good choices are Verdana, Arial, Comic Sans, Tahoma. Try to keep font size at 48 or higher. Keep backgrounds simple. Information should be simple, and to the point. 12

2. SAVING & CONVERTING TO FLASHCARDS POWERPOINT USERS: Click File>Save As. In the Save as type or Format drop-down box, select JPEG. Select location to save. Choose Every Slide when prompted. Open folder where slides were saved. Renumber the first 9 slides by putting a 0 in front of the number. 13

2. SAVING & CONVERTING TO FLASHCARDS KEYNOTE USERS: Click File>Export. At top of window that appears click on Images. Be sure the All button is selected. Select JPG (variable quality) from the format drop-box. Click Next. Name your set of cards in the Save As box and select the folder where you want them saved. Click Export. 14

3. Create a.zip File So that you can post these on your website, you need to create a.zip file. A.zip file acts like a file folder. It contains more than one file that has been compressed to reduce the file size. This allows users to download a single file (that contains multiple other files) instead of having to download each file. 15

How to create a.zip file PC USERS: Right-click the folder containing the flash card images. Select Send To>Compressed (zipped) folder Mac Users: Control-click the folder containing the flash card images. Select Create Archive of file name 16 Your flashcards are now ready to be posted on your website!

Syncing & Viewing Open iTunes and connect iPod to computer. Click Photos tab. Select location of the folder with your flashcards. Click Sync photos from: (choose file) Click Sync. To view, select Photos from iPods main menu. View cards by using the scroll wheel 17

FLASHCARDS ON DIGITAL PICTURE FRAMES 18 SOURCES: Look for sales! Ask parents or others for unused frames! Thrift stores!

FLASHCARDS ON DIGITAL PICTURE FRAMES 19 Use the same flashcards youve already made! Just put them on a Scandisk or a flash drive. You can set the speed with which the screen moves. Math Facts Vocabul ary words Diagra ms, illustrat ions, images
