Questions with Inversion In French questions are often constructed using the phrase “est-ce que”, however, when the subject is a pronoun inversion is more commonly used.

Questions with Inversion When a question is constructed using inversion the subject and the verb are inverted, or switched. They are connected by a hyphen. Verb - Subject . . .?

Questions with Inversion Verb - Subject . . .? Tu voyages à Paris. You travel to Paris. Voyages-tu à Paris? Do you travel to Paris?

Questions with Inversion Verb - Subject . . .? Vous jouez au basket. You play basketball. Jouez-vous au basket? Do you play basketball?

Questions with Inversion When the subject is il or elle a “-t-” is inserted between the subject and the verb for pronunciation purposes. Joue-t-il au basket?
