Questions Matter!

In his Jan 15 letter, Leigh Botts records some questions he has about Beggar Bear, Mr. Henshaw’s new book.

Question #1 At first, I was surprised because it (Beggar Bear) isn’t funny like your other books. I think Leigh was wondering why.

Question #2 I wonder what happens to the father of bears. Do they just go away?

Some questions are answered.

Question #1 At first, I was surprised because it (Beggar Bear) isn’t funny like your other books. I think that Leigh answers this question on his own after reading more of the book. I got to thinking…and decided a book doesn’t have to be funny to be good…This book did not need to be funny. I guess I expected it because of your other books and because the mother bear was teaching her twin cubs to beg from tourists in Yellowstone Park. Then when the mother died…I knew this was going to be a sad book

Some questions are NOT answered.

Question #2 I wonder what happens to the father of bears. Do they just go away? This is a follow up question. It is NOT answered by reading this text. Questions that come from reading can lead to further investigation.

It’s great to keep a list of questions you have about your reading It’s great to keep a list of questions you have about your reading. You can mark questions that are answered as you read more of the text A = answered
