Jim Henson, Great American =P By Izzy Stevenson

“A Man Of Many Colors”

“A Young Man With A Dream” The magnificent adventure and thrill-ride of surprises, renamed James Maury Henson, was born on September 24, 1936 at King’s Daughters Hospital in Greenwich, Mississippi The second born son of Paul and Betty Henson Married Jane Nebel in college, where he started his first TV premiering of “Sam and Friends” 5 children, all to come later Spent over half his life working as a famous and talented puppeteer Tragically died on May 16, 1990 of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

“Muppet Accomplishments” Always his childhood dream to entertain and make a difference, creating the Muppets fulfilled that dream Added a whole new level of entertainment on TV, shows and movies that are appropriate yet satisfying for the whole family

“Personality of a ‘Gentle Giant’” Jim’s family and co-puppeteers working with Jim refer to him as the “Gentle Giant” because of his kind, loving, patient behavior “Of the 20-something years I’ve worked with Jim,” recalls co- puppeteer Steve Whitmire, “I’ve only ever seen him angry once.” Even though he was considered to be the most original man alive, he took from others; after many people told a famous Walt Disney that his version of “Snow White” would fail, he tried it anyways, leading to a huge success. Jim followed this example through his first ever movie with awe for Disney
