PROJECT A: LESSONS 2/3 THE ISSUES PEOPLE FACE

REVIEW THE QUESTIONS You will now look at a range of videos based on the four issues outlined last time. Review the questions your class wrote last lesson and make a note of 5 questions for each of the issues. Once you have seen all of the issues’ videos, you will choose one of the challenges presented to you and complete both the reading and one of the writing Key Skills tasks as a response.

OBESITY Watch the following clip ‘Obesity in Wales The Stark Statistics’ and make notes on some of the facts and figures regarding obesity in Wales. Challenge 1: Design a leaflet for a specific target audience on achieving a healthy weight. Target audience must be either: Teenagers Pregnant Women Middle aged people

SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS Watch the following clip designed by Suffolk Council aimed at teenagers at 16+ entitled ‘No Risks. No Worries.’ Make notes on any valid or useful issues raised. Challenge 2 Write a detailed report on the Suffolk You Tube film outlining their successes and suggesting improvements for a future campaign on teenage sexual health.

CAR SAFETY Watch the following clip on ‘Texting While Driving’. How effective is the clip? Why? Watch the clip on ‘Shocking Video Warning to Teen Drivers’ How far do you agree with these reactions? Challenge 3 Design a safety advice booklet for teenagers encouraging safe driving from young learner drivers.

BINGE DRINKING Watch the following clips aimed at changing attitudes toward drinking. Make notes on the way each tries to affect the viewer and evaluate the effectiveness. (Australia) (Norfolk Police) (New Zealand) (Art College) (Sydney, Aus) Challenge 4 Design an advice sheet aimed at your own age group on the best way to drink safely. Or Design a print based anti-drinking / anti- binge drinking adverting campaign.

CHALLENGE… You will now have a number of lessons to research and produce your written response to your chosen issue. Step 1 Research. In completing your research, you will complete you Key Skills level 3 Communication work. This will require you to show annotation and underlining and a notes page showing that you have understood the articles. Step 2 Planning Before you write your response, you need to plan it. This is a requirement of the Key Skills level 3 Communication. Step 3 Writing Your response will form the evidence for the one of the documents required for Key Skills Level 3 Communication
