7 Copy this in to your books… People are not born with good or poor emotional health. It depends on the circumstances they grow up in, as well as the knowledge and skills and experience they collect throughout their life, and of course, the way they use them.

8 Emotional health is part of your overall health.
It is about how we think and feel. Emotional health is all about recognising how you feel and being able to cope with a range of feelings Having good emotional health doesn’t mean you are always happy – it just means that you can cope with a range of feelings and bounce back from times when you feel bad.

11 What do you think might cause stress for young people?
What might knock them off balance? Task In your book – write down 3 things that could cause a young person stress or worry – Be prepared to share your ideas with the group.

12 Looking After Your Emotional Health
Can you think of ways that might help you cope or deal with stressful or challenging times? Imagine you have a friend who has come to you, they are feeling very stressed about a whole mix of things. What advice might you give them?

Use a safe website to look at how other young people are feeling Confiding in friend and family Counselling Thinking about the advice you would give a friend in the same situation Asking for help, advice or support Making a list of good things about yourself/life Talking about worries or problems Burning off stress and thinking things through by exercising Finding out about local services Writing feelings down Doing something you enjoy Using a helpline

14 Remember the little things you do every day help you keep the balance – as well as the big things. And… remember, life is full of ups and downs, it’s how we deal with them that matters.

16 Homework Task Interview 2 people in your family and find out how they deal with stress or worries in their everyday lives.

17 Choose 1 of the following tasks…
Create a 3 page information leaflet which covers What is good emotional health What might set us off balance? What can we do to help us stay emotionally healthy? Your leaflet should be colourful and informative and directed at teenagers. Visual appeal, as well as content is very important! Draw a detailed mind map with ideas that show Your mind map should be divided into sections. And then sub-divided again to break the information down. Make you mind map visual by adding colour and pictures Write a column for a teen magazine that informs young people of This article should cover all the above areas. Your will need to plan it out before you start. You will need to think of a heading. Perhaps give an example of an individual
