AAUW Position Description: AAUW Funds, Development, or Fundraising Chair Core Responsibilities: Promote and oversee growth of AAUW’s mission through a fundraising plan with goals and measureable outcomes. Understand all facets of AAUW Funds philanthropic programs, fund names and numbers. Work with AAUW program and membership priorities. Consult with the state AAUW Funds chair regarding AAUW philanthropic structure, objectives, and contributions management. Disseminate AAUW research & fundraising updates to board. Funds Responsibilities continued: Submit all contributions generated by fundraising in a timely manner to the national office. Help to identify potential donors and opportunities for building fundraising capacity, including collaborative partnerships with other organizations. Encourage attendance at AAUW Funds luncheon in the Fall. Encourage help with unfinished California endowments. Request a Fellow Speaker Having a Fellow come speak at your event is motivating to members. You may have one fellow speaker every two years. GUIDELINES FOR REQUESTING A FELLOW: Do not contact fellow or grant recipients directly. No expenses should be incurred by the fellow. Branches must offer a minimum honorarium of $50. Transportation (.50/mile) or public transportation paid. Must provide overnight accommodation, if necessary. Speaker’s meal must be provided, if applicable. Allow a minimum of 20 minutes to speak. AAUW’s Impact Internationally The work of AAUW is important to women and girls around the world. This map represents AAUW’s international work in just one year. The United Nations relies on AAUW as an organization with consultative status, and our research has been useful in their work.  And of course, AAUW awarded International Fellowships and International Project Grants to 53 women from around the world.

AAUW’s Impact Across the Country You can see the east gets most of the benefits – because they apply for the fellowships and grants. Encourage your members and everyone you know to apply for a grant or fellowship.

AAUW’s Impact in California The Educational Opportunities Fund impacted California in the following ways during 2011-2012: There were 45 fellowship and grant recipients in California, and 9 Californians served on fellowships and grants selection panels. 45 colleges and universities joined AAUW. 12 women from California attended the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) and one of these students received a full scholarship from AAUW that sponsored by Jo Harberson. 28 attorneys across the state offered pro-bono, reduced, or contingency-fee services to those referred by AAUW.

AAUW Funds 2010-2011 California had 45 fellowships and grant recipients and 9 members served on selection panels 45 Colleges and Universities are members. 12 California women attended the National Conference for college women student leaders. (NCCWSL) 28 attorneys provides pro bono reduced or contingency fee serves to those referred by AAUW.

The Legal Advocacy Fund (#3999) The Legal Advocacy Fund supports the protection of the legal rights of those who are facing discrimination. Some of LAF’s programs include Legal Case Support, which protects LAF plaintiffs by supporting workplace sex discrimination cases. LAF Case Support Travel Grants, which can provides programs delivered by LAF plaintiffs and lawyers. Campus Outreach Projects, which protect college students from discrimination, harassment, and assault through on-campus program grants. The Legal Advocacy Fund supports the protection of the legal rights of those who are facing discrimination. Some of LAF’s programs include Legal Case Support, which protects LAF plaintiffs by supporting workplace sex discrimination cases. LAF Case Support Travel Grants, which protect AAUW members through educational programs about legal rights delivered by LAF plaintiffs and lawyers. Campus Outreach Projects, which protect college students from discrimination, harassment, and assault through on-campus program grants.

The Fellows Alumnae Initiative, which inspires women by providing access to the network of past and current AAUW fellows and grantees. AAUW National Tech Trek, which educates and inspires eighth grade girls across the country in science, technology, engineering, and math through weeklong camps. The Educational Opportunities Fund supports educational and lifelong learning opportunities that give women a chance for a lifetime of success. Elect Her, which teaches leaders the skills they need to run for student government. This program successfully increases the number of women who are involved in making decisions that affect all students on campus The Leadership Programs Fund (#4339) supports programs that develop women’s potential to lead in their schools, communities, and country. Leadership programs include: The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders: Attendees develop their leadership skills, networks, and ambition at this acclaimed, intensive three-day conference held annually in Washington, D.C. Campus Action Projects: AAUW awards grants to campus leaders to deliver programs guided by the findings and recommendations of AAUW research to address a gender-based issue in their community. Replicable or ongoing projects are selected to provide continued leadership training and support for women leaders. Elect Her, which teaches leaders the skills they need to run for student government. This program successfully increases the number of women who are involved in making decisions that affect all students on campus. These student leaders are also introduced to a national network of women who are running for and holding public offices.

Pages 3 and 4 describe the different funds. When I first did this page it did not allow me to save and it sent it on to national. So I did not continue using it. I made a spreadsheet and sent it in.
