Why I take the Lord’s Prayer Seriously
Presentation transcript:

Developed by: Dennis Fuqua © 2010 Dennis Fuqua

 Have a desire to pray more and better  If you don’t have that desire, ask the Lord to give it to you  Note the pattern normally is from “desire to discipline to delight”

 Ask the Lord to “teach you to pray” – over and over again  Recognize your need of help  Recognize that He deeply desires to help you (this is part of “His will”)  As an expression of your faith that He will answer this prayer…  Regularly express thanks to Him that He is and will teach you to pray  Set aside regular time and approach it with anticipation

 Be convinced that His best answers will flow from the pattern of the Lord’s Prayer  He was serious when He gave these instructions  Remember Matthew 7:24-27 and John 13:17  See the value of praying this pattern “today” – each day  Ask the Holy Spirit to creatively expand each word or line of this prayer – like hyper-links on a web page

 Make notes of the way He makes this prayer “alive in you”  i.e. The meaning of each word or line  The relationship of each word or line to each other  The application of the words or lines to various aspects of your life  The “methods” of prayer you begin to develop

 “Practice” this for the next 50 years and see how it works out for you  It actually does take practice to pray in a new way  Don’t let any sense of awkwardness stop you  Think of it as playing scales prior to learning a great piece of music
