Instructions To familiarize you with poetry analysis and to re-familiarize you with poetic devices and terms, you will be going through several poems, strategies, and songs to gain a grasp on poetry and its effects. For each of the topics below, you will need a slide. Each slide should 1. Use the Stated Method 2. Accomplish the Task (in parenthesis) 3. Use visuals that appropriately address the poem 4. Use Word Art (arrow, callouts, boxes) to help create your point 5. Find and identify as many literary devices as you can (in a box at the bottom of every slide) For Part I, annotate fully according to the given method and keep notes on your annotations to be handed in. Part I: Using this page ( find poems and make a slide for each the following: Slide 1 – TPS-FASTT (Find a two representative pictures from the poem, use arrows and text boxes to identify your annotations)TPS-FASTT Slide 2 – SOAPS-TONE (Put the poem in the background, cover it with one thematic word; then, use lines and words from the poem explain why you used that word)SOAPS-TONE Slide 3 – Vendler Model (Using Pictures and Emotional Curve, track the progress of the poem. Along the curve, put verses from poem that show your thinking)Vendler Model Slide 4 – AIM – Create a Bull’s Eye; in the circles, put thematic words and the verses that helped you arrive at them. In the center, put the enthymeme (good term – look AIM it up) in either picture, verse, word form Part II: Find five literary terms you absolutely do not know; 1. At the top of the slide, give the technical definition 2. Go to the following website ( find the term, and find a poem that shows how it workshttp:// 3. Create a slide that uses 3 pictures to tell the poem’s story and 1 picture that demonstrates/represents how the device works 4. At the bottom of the slide, write the definition of the word in your own words Part III: Your Own Music (find songs that relate to the following poetic situations) Side 1 – Ode – Lyrics on one side, on the other write a scene (not of the song, but the situation in another context). In the middle, put pictures that represent the crisis and list the devices Slide 2 – Elegy – Put the lyrics as the background of the page; on the left of the foreground find a passage from one of the novel’s we’ve read; to the right, list the literary connections Slide 3 – Lyric – Put the song in the middle of the page; using a strikethrough (next to to the underline box in the toolbar) eliminate the non-essential words; use those same words for a summary (not a scene, but a narrative – as if in a book – that takes the reader to from the beginning of the poem’s story to the end) Slide 4 – Epic – Find a picture that tells the story - use as your background; list 5 parts of the poem, label the device being used – create flow chart to show how the selected pieces work to tell the story Slide 5 – Narrative – Do the same you did with Slide 3 - create a lyric poem out of the narrative poem, then annotate it using the TPS-FASST Method; annotate using pictures and words Visual Resources (possibly helpful):
