The Springboro Division of Police works in partnership with the community to provide protection and security for it’s citizens. The Police Division exists to protect people and property, to foster a community spirit and adherence to the law, to provide rapid response to citizens needs for service and to provide a variety of emergency services. Police Chief – Chief Executive Officer The Police Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, operations analysis, community relations and public affairs, development of operational policies and procedures, publishing enforcement and training bulletins and the development of short and long range operations. Springboro’s Division of Police is organized into two components: Operations Section The Operations Section consists of the following functions:  Patrol  Property Management  Crime Prevention  Investigations Unit  Criminal Investigations  Personnel Training  Juvenile Delinquency Communications Records Section The Communications Records Section is responsible for the reception and dispatching of calls for service to the Springboro Police Division. It is responsible for the maintenance and control of all police reports and records within the police division, except those reports which by their nature would stay under the control of the Chief of Police.

Operations Section The Operations Section consists of:  Lieutenant  Sergeants  Investigators  Patrol Officers The function of the Operations Section include the following: Patrol The patrol function is responsible for the protection of life, property and the prevention of crime and the apprehension of offenders through a combination of random and direction patrol by uniformed police officers in marked police vehicles. The patrol force is responsible to preserve the public peace, response to calls for service, render assistance to persons when necessary, conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations or reported offenses. Crime Prevention The crime prevention function provides crime prevention programs to the citizens of the community. The Crime Prevention Officer is also involved in public relations for the department. He is sometimes responsible for assisting the community with block parties, arranging for tours of the building for scout troops, etc. He shall keep up to date on crime patterns within the city and identify problem areas within the community, then make recommendations to reduce those areas that have been identified.

Communications Records Section The Communications Records Section consists of:  Lead Dispatcher  Dispatcher/Deputy Clerks The Communications Records Section, under the supervision of the Lead Dispatcher, is responsible for the reception and dispatching of calls for service. The main and most important duty of this component is to receive and transmit various types of information in person, by telephone, by two- way radio and by computer terminal. It is responsible for receiving payments, typing charges for presentment in Springboro Mayor’s Court when the Clerk of Courts office is closed and for performing receptionist clerk/typist duties. It is responsible for the maintenance and control of all police reports. In 2004 the Communications Section dispatched 9,830 calls for service compared to 9,574 in ,639 Computer Aided Dispatch calls were processed by the Communications Section in 2004 with 21,287 in showed 1,211 calls were received by E-911. In 2003, 1,284 calls were received.
