STAND-UP COMEDY By: David Freeman

HISTORY Comedy comes from many cultures. Up until the 1800 hundreds comedy was mostly for theaters. After that it was preformed in houses on the street and it was much more common to hear a joke. The term stand-up comic was first written in a dictionary in 1966 it was in both Websters Collegiate Dictionary and Oxford English Dictionary.

The Art of Comedy Stand-up takes a long time to master. To learn stand-up it is best to start by watching famous comedians and start developing your own style. Then you can either start by thinking of jokes and getting props to go with it or get props and make jokes to go with them. After that you should try testing some of your jokes on a group of friends. This will get you ready to perform in front of a crowd and give you a chance to see how good your jokes are.

Comedys past In the 1800s comedy was performed in theaters alone. As technology evolved so did comedy there were more things to make fun of and more ways to have people hear it. With the radios invention comedy could be heard in every household. Abbott and Costello were some of the best and most heard radio comedians of their time.

Comedy evolving With the invention of the T.V. comedians could use props in their acts. With the need for props in their acts comedians felt more and more pressure to use larger and more intricate items in their acts. Some used cars and boats, some used small shacks, and some even used airplanes!
