RE-vision Partner Reflection and Conversation

Defining Purpose Revision—editing or proofreading However, this rarely dramatically alters the original content of your writing… RE-vision—pushing yourself to look at your essay in a fresh, new, and dramatically different light

RE-vision When you consider the FOUR KEYS of writing, it means altering one or more of these: ROLE (who you are writing as) AUDIENCE (who you are writing for) FORMAT (how you present your information/ideas) TOPIC (what information you present)

TOPIC In 2-3 sentences, summarize what you believe to be the purpose of this piece. Given your reading and comprehension of the piece, is the purpose of the piece implicitly or explicitly stated. Is this effective? Why or why not? Is each idea skillfully developed in support of the writer’s purpose? Which points in the piece are especially effect? Which need work?

FORMAT How would you describe the format the author has decided to utilize in the construction of his/her piece? Does the paper display a seamless organization that compliments the purpose of the essay? Which areas are especially effective/successful? Which areas could use some attention and WHY? Examine the comparison the author develops in the piece. Is this comparison original, creative, and effective? How could it be improved?

ATTITUDE In 2-3 words, how would you describe the tone of this piece? What makes you say this (reference specific areas of the writing)? Does the format of the piece compliment this attitude and vice versa? Why or why not? How can this relationship be improved? Does the tone of the piece help to illuminate the author’s purpose? Why or why not? How can this relationship be improved?

ROLE List some adjectives that you would use to describe the speaker/narrator/voice developed in this piece. How, specifically, has the author developed this persona in his/her piece (reference specific elements/areas of the writing). How does the voice/persona developed in the piece help to illuminate the writing’s purpose? How might the author continue to strengthen this connection?
