Keep the Conversation Going Help children stay in a conversation, aiming for it to go back and forth at least five times. Ask genuine questions that build on what the children have said and make comments that show your interest. Then, wait expectantly for a response. Stick to the children’s topic and try not to take too many turns or too long a turn yourself. The longer children stay in conversation, the more practice, feedback, and information they get, all of which build their skills. ©2008 Hanen Early Language Program ©2008 Hanen Early Language Program
