Animals The Animals in the Alps are found in the forests and on the mountains Some examples are; The Chamois (an antelope) The Ibex (a wild goat)

Plants The lower mountain sides are covered with forests of Oak, Chestnut and Beech trees The other plants that also live here are Alpine Flowers such as Edelweiss and Primrose.

Plants Coniferous trees are the main type of trees on the upper slopes Their cone shape helps them in windy conditions and their downward sloping, springy branches allows the snow to slide off the tree without causing damage.

Weather In the winter the weather changes, just like it does in the UK In the winter there is lots of snow on the tops of the mountains but it is also often very sunny In the summer the snow melts and the sun comes out. It can also be quite windy

Comparison The Alps The Alps are in Europe and can be found in five countries; France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Lichtenstein The tallest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc at over 4800m The Alps cover an area of 1230km 2 The Andes The Andes are in South America and can be found in seven countries; Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina The tallest mountain in the Andes is Mount Aconcagua at over 6900m The Andes are the longest mountain range in the world at 7200km
