Roaring Twenties gave a new definition to womanhood. A new woman was born, who smoked and drank in public, danced and exercised her franchise, kept her hair short, wore make-up, dressed differently, and confidently participated in economic activities. In general…

Although Women had won the right to vote during the war, few women were elected to the house of commons or to the provincial governments. vote

If women worked they worked until they were married Women were mainly seen as homemakers. They held traditional jobs such as domestic servants,secretaries,salesclerks,or factory workers,nurses and teachers. Women doctors and lawyers were admitted to practice rather grudgingly. work

World War I had expanded women's employment in new sectors of the economy, and by 1920, 25.6 percent of employed women worked in white-collar office-staff jobs, 23.8 percent in manufacturing, 18.2 percent in domestic service, and 12.9 percent in agriculture. They earned just over $8 a week
