2 Why Do We Study It? We study the 1920 Olympics because of the amount of records made. For example, Highest Jump, 100 meter, 400 meter, oldest person to ever receive a medal at the Olympics. We study this because we still have a ceremony today for all the soldiers that have died for us today before the Olympic games even start. Also because the people in the Olympics in this time want to know what records can still be broken from the past competitor's.

3 Why Is It Important? The 1920 Olympics are important to know about because that is when all the records have been started, and that’s what people today in the Olympics try and beat to hold the record. It is important because the Olympics was cancelled because of World War I which is why before we start our Olympics today we have a special ceremony to thank all the soldiers for helping fight off the war. This Olympics is important because this was the first Olympics for people to start setting records.

4 How Did It Impact People At The Time?
The Olympics impacted so much people at the time because it kept all the people who weren’t in the war occupied with other things instead of worrying about others. It impacted so many people because in the 1920’s athletes starting setting records for the upcoming Olympics. Also, most people were good at only a couple tings and focused on just those things instead of trying to adapt to something new.

5 How Does It Impact People Today?
The 1920 Olympics impacts many of us today because a lot of the records get continually broke by new people, which makes all the new competitors beat the newest one. But this was all started because of the early Olympic years. The Olympics in the 1920’s impact us because now it’s just an annual 2 year event that everyone gets prepared and excited to watch for.

6 1920 Olympics In 1916 the Olympics games were scheduled to be held in Berlin but were cancelled due to World War I. The 1920 games were awarded to Antwerp to honor the suffering that had been infected on the Belgian people during the war. Age No barrier: At age 72 Swedish shooter Oscar Swahn earned a silver medal in the team double shot running deer event to become the oldest medalist ever. There was 65 Women, and 2,561 Men in the Olympics.

7 Percy Williams Percy Williams was born May 19th, 1908 – Died November 29th, He is 5”7 Tall and is Canadian He was a Canadian sprinter gold medalist at the 1928 Olympic game in Amsterdam. He was the first sprinter not from the United States to win 2 gold medals at one Olympics. When Williams was 15 years old he suffered from Rheumatic Fever. He was told to avoid Strenuous exercise. In 1928 he ran the 100 meter dash in 10.6 seconds to win a place on the Canadian Olympic team. When he won the 100 meter dash in the Canadian dash he set a record of 10.3 seconds.

8 Ethel Catherwood Ethel Catherwood was born April 28th, Died September 26th, 1987 She was born in North Dakota and was a track and field athlete. She was the only Canadian women to ever get a individual gold medal in track and field. She emerged as a high jumper in 1926 when she equaled the Canadian record at a city meet. Later she broke the world record with a jump of 1.58 meters. At the 1928 Canadian championships in Halifax she set a new record of 1.6 meters. On the final day of the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics Ethel Catherwood cleared 1.59 meters in the women's running high jump for the gold medal.

9 Bobbie Rosenfeld Bobbies RosenFeld was born December 28th,1904 – Died November 14th, 1969 – She is Jewish She was a Canadian athlete who won a gold medal for the 400 meter relay and a silver medal for the 100meter at the 1928 summer Olympics in Amsterdam. She was known for her wise cracks as well as for her sportsmanship. Although famous as an all around athlete she gained the international spotlight with her achievements in track.
