St Thomas More RC Primary School Learning Logs

What is a Learning Log? They are an opportunity for children to extend and consolidate learning in the classroon. They encourage all children to be creative and independent. They encourage children to be actively involved in their work and take pride in it. Learning Logs encourage partnership between home and school. As Learning Logs are personalised there is no right or wrong way to approach a task. They give children ownership of their work. Children can be as creative and as imaginative as they like. Learning Logs can be a useful revision tool for children. Learning Logs can be a useful assessment tool for teachers.

What would I have to do in a Learning Log? For each piece of work you will be given a research topic or title, followed by a variety of suggested activities. You can then record anyway you like your understanding and knowledge of the research topic. You can draw, cut, stick, make little booklets, chart, write your work down anyway you like. You can then share your log with friends, family and teachers. You will have to complete the task by the due date specified on the sheet.

Feedback Teachers will mark the Learning Log using the Marking Scheme provided on the sheet. Pupils will also be given verbal and written feedback from their peers and teacher. There will be time given in school for children to review and discuss their work. Learning Logs will be given a high profile in school and we will celebrate and reward children’s good work and effort. Learning Logs are now used in many schools and we believe they will help the children to become more independent in their learning, which will help to prepare them for High school.
