Stress the importance of the family unit, law and order and traditional values Are nationalist- placing the interest of the nation over the individual.

Those on the left wing of politics: Want to change society rapidly. Aim to treat all people as equal and give political powwer to the workers. Oppose capitalism; they want to abolish private ownership of land and business. Are internationalists; they stress the cooperation of nations

The Political Parties in Weimar Germany Learning Objective To be able to identify the different political parties in Germany and place them on the political spectrum Left Wing Right Wing

Proportional Representation This was the method used in the Weimar Republic to decide which Party would form the government. Each Party received the % of seats in the Reichstag related to number of votes they received. For example if the Nazi Party received only 3% of the vote then they would receive a 3 % share of the seats in the Reichstag. The problem with this is that the Germans had too much choice (28 different parties) and no party secured a majority win. The First President of the Weimar Republic Friedrich Ebert was forced to set up a coalition government with the SPD, DDP and the Centre Party.. Freidrich Ebert was the First Chancellor, he became the President and Phillip Scheidemann took over as Chancellor
