Benefits For Your Business Cost management – Some short term IT requirements are more cost effectively met by using consultants or contractors vs. hiring full time staff – Some long term IT requirements can be well met by intermittent use of consultant/contractor staff at less cost than by permanent staff – Recurring consultant/contractor relationships are even more cost effective because the learning curve for tools, processes and organization is reduced after the first engagement Skills enhancement – You hire permanent people with the key skills that are needed constantly. Other skill areas are best served by bringing in people who have them only when there is a clear business need. New ideas and opinions – Our experience across multiple businesses may provide context within which innovative (vs. incremental) improvement opportunities will be discovered 1/4/20148Copyright © 2008 Pasley IT Rx Visible Value for IT

Healthy IT Framework (1 of 2) 1/4/2014 Copyright © 2008 Pasley IT Rx Visible Value for IT 22 The Healthy IT Framework includes two items already discussed Five Key Skills - PARTS – Problem resolution – Architecture and Standards – Relationship management – Team and Project leadership – Service Analysis and Governance) – Training is provided to all IT organization levels for appropriate competence in the key skills. Working Smartly Criteria – WSC – Minimize waste and costs – Maximize flexibility and ROI – True business criteria are considered for every decision, within the context of the seven rules. – The ones above are of universal interest. There may be additional criteria applicable to your business.

Healthy IT Framework (2 of 2) 1/4/2014 Copyright © 2008 Pasley IT Rx Visible Value for IT 23 Plus three other items: Seven Rules for behavior - FREEBOT – Freedom, Respect, Ecology, Enterprise, Boundaries, Opportunity, Truth – The rules are understood and honored by all stakeholders. Ethical and consistent behavior by the people involved is the foundation for culture building. Four Core Components of IT – PSPT – People, Strategy, Processes, Technology – The PSPT components are clearly understood, consistently implemented, and revised at a pace that meets the pace of change for the business. – Appropriate balance is maintained between them for focus, funding, talent, etc. Three Life Cycle Phases – PPO – Planning, Projects, Operations – Each phase has competent and committed leadership. – The leaders communicate with one another and produce work that is synergistic and coordinated across the three phases. – Appropriate balance is maintained between them for focus, funding, talent, etc.

An IT department has four core components, People, Strategy, Processes and Technology – Other components (Solutions/Applications, Architectures, Services, Policies, Contracts, etc.) are built from these four Each core component can be optimized – Strategy: Business functional alignment, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Target architectures – People: Relationships, Morale, Loyalty, Competence, Enthusiasm – Processes: Governance, Handoffs, Change, Incident handling, Escalation, Regulatory compliance, Efficiency, Stability, Recovery, Security, HR – Technology: Standards, Inventory, Currency, Integration, Evolution IT departmental optimization requires balanced optimization of all four components – Optimizing one often requires suboptimization of another – The right balance will change over time 1/4/ Healthy IT snippet: PSPT Optimizing an IT Department There are key skills necessary for optimizing all four IT components. We focus on five of them. See next slide. Copyright © 2008 Pasley IT Rx Visible Value for IT
