PTIL/PSA Dropped Objects Johnny Gundersen Petroleum Safety Authority DROPS

PTIL/PSA RNNP -definition of Dropped Object An object falling more than 0 meter within the facility’s safety zone, either on deck or to the sea with a potential of developing into an accident -This means that in case an object slides or roles or where it is only a potential but does not drop it is not included in the reported incidents

PTIL/PSA Reported Dropped Objects

PTIL/PSA Dropped Objects per Operator

PTIL/PSA Classified according to Personell in the Area

PTIL/PSA Percentage of incidents per working process

PTIL/PSA Working processes split up B= drilling K= Crane P=Process G= others

PTIL/PSA Dropped Objects related to Energy Class

PTIL/PSA Energy versus Working Processes (Drilling and Crane operations)

PTIL/PSA Energy versus Working Processes (Process and Others)

PTIL/PSA Conclusions 2009 versus 2010: Statistics from the RNNP shows little improvement with regard to dropped objects – some improvement in the number of incidents for 2010, but not for drilling related working processes More dropped objects related to category “other working processes” – still the largest category, but decrease for 2010 Heavier objects (Higher Energy) falling down in 2009 – The number of dropped object has been more or less stable for the last years except for 2009 (which was higher than normal) No improvements with regard to getting personnel away from the impact area, still a challenge – still a challenge, but slowly improving Dropped Objects is still a major challenge, especially for Crane operations (Higher Energy) – still a challenge with high potential for personnel injuries Important to keep up the focus on Dropped Objects! – absolutely still important!! Need to analyze and increase focus on potential for Dropped Objects in category “other working processes (and keep up focus for drilling, cranes and processes) – have seen a decrease for “other working processes” for 2010, but at the sacrifice of other processes? So far in 2011 the trend is not improving
