What is EDNOS The Diagnostic and Statistical manual only recognizes two distinct eating disorders (anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa) If they have feeling, thoughts, or behaviors that do not coincide with the two distinct eating disorders, they would be diagnosed with EDNOS

Misconceptions of EDNOS Label gives misconception of not being as common or important They have similar caloric and weight decrease/increase Driven to be overly thin and not confident with their bodily image

Causes of EDNOS Combination of environmental and ecological factors Environmental factors make it worse since they feel excluded since they do not have the ideal image They feel like these problems “of their own” but they don’t know that others have this too, could make this issue worse Predispositions with low level dopamine and hurts biological processes in the stomach

Prevalence Most common in young adults but could be prevalent later on in life Far more common on females Binge eating is more even among males and females Hard to estimate exact figure since other established disorders are studied more accurately deadliest-eating-disorder-quietly- common/story?id=

Treatment and Long-Term Effects Cognitive-behavior therapy, group or individual. Therapy session has helped with other eating disorders It focuses on self-monitoring of eating and purging behaviors as well as changing the distorted thinking patterns associated with the disorder Can also result in some of the long term effects on physical health, just as anorexia and bulimia.
