John Paul Sartre Alyssa Flinchum Period 2

Life Born and died in Paris France Married, and shares a grave with Simone de Beauvoir Studied philosophy at École Normale Supérieure from Became Professor of philosophy at Le Harve in 1931 His father was Jean-Baptiste Sartre, and mother was Anne-Marie Schweitzer During World War II, Sartre worked as a Meteorologist for the French army. He was captured by German troops in Padoux and was a prisoner of war for 9 months.

His Philosophy Dictionary.com’s definition: Existentialism- a philosophical attitude associated especially with Heidegger, Jaspers, Marcel, and Sartre, and opposed to rationalism and empiricism, that stresses the individual's unique position as a self-determining agent responsible for the authenticity of his or her choices.
