TITLE: Pilot Diameter and Depth Measuring SWI:REVISION:DATE:PAGES:WORK STATION: MI Shop-Pilot Dia./DepthB # OF 6Shop Technology in Motion STANDARD WORK INSTRUCTION Trained and capable of performing this work: Date: Supervisor or engineer giving Approving to perform: Operator 2 Operator 5 Operator 6 Operator 4 Operator 1 Operator 3 On this page is information about operators that are trained and certified to perform this Standard Work. The operators signing below have read this SWI and have successfully performed the work described in it in the presence of the Supervisor or Engineer signing in the second column on the date in the third column.

TITLE: Pilot Diameter and Depth Measuring SWI:REVISION:DATE:PAGES:WORK STATION: MI Shop-Pilot Dia./DepthB # OF 6Shop Technology in Motion STANDARD WORK INSTRUCTION Safety Requirements:Safety glasses In Process Check 1) Parts must be between 21°C and 27°C during inspection process. 2) Be sure the anvil and spindle of the micrometer are 180° apart when taking the measurement. 3) Be sure the measuring surfaces of the micrometer are properly seated on the pilot diameter and not the fillet. 4) 1. Place a motor on the v-blocks. Operator Maintenance 1) Check calibration on micrometer. 2) 3) 4) Material / Components 1) Motor or End cap to be tested 2) 3) 4) Tools & Fixtures 1) V-blocks 2) Blade Micrometer 3) 4) 5) 2. Measure the distance across the pilot using the blade micrometer. Hold the anvil tight against one side while rocking the spindle back and forth to find the smallest value at the widest point. 3. Take a second measurement 90° to the first. Pilot Diameter 1. V

A regular micrometer can also be used as long as the flange of the end cap does not interfere with the frame of the micrometer. Simply repeat steps 2 & 3. In Process Check 1) Parts must be between 21°C and 27°C during inspection process. 2) Be sure the anvil and spindle of the micrometer are 180° apart when taking the measurement. 3) Be sure the measuring surfaces of the micrometer are properly seated on the pilot diameter and not the fillet. 4) 4. 2&3.

TITLE: Pilot Diameter and Depth Measuring SWI:REVISION:DATE:PAGES:WORK STATION: MI Shop-Pilot Dia./DepthB # OF 6Shop Technology in Motion STANDARD WORK INSTRUCTION Safety Requirements:Safety glasses Operator Maintenance 1) Check calibration date on depth micrometer. 2) 3) 4) Material / Components 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Tools & Fixtures 1) Depth Micrometer 2) 3) 4) 5) 6. Extend the spindle to measure the height being sure to hold the anvil flat against the pilot. In Process Check 1) Be sure pilot surface, anvil face, and spindle face are clean and clear of debris. 2) Be sure not to lift micrometer when extending the spindle. 3) 4) 5) 5. Place depth micrometer onto pilot to be measured Take three measurements, spaced equally apart, around the diameter of pilot. Pilot Depth

In Process Check 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 9. Zero height gauge. 10. Measure depth by raising scribe to pilot surface. 8. Place height gauge scribe onto lower face surface Repeat steps two more times per step 7.
