E-waste collection in the Słowacki General Secondary School No

What is e-waste? Also known as e-waste, discarded computer equipment comprises monitors, printers, hard drives and circuit boards. Such items should on no account be thrown out with your household rubbish because they contain toxic substances, and are effectively hazardous waste.

Heaps of e-waste in our school

They were getting bigger and bigger

So our school community decided to get rid of it

Why? My PC contains: Plastic 23% Ferrous metals 32% Non-ferrous metals 18% Electronic boards 12% Glass 15%

What types of computer parts can be recycled? Glass monitor Keyboard CD Rom drive Plastic case Cathode ray tube (CRT) Cables Copper in power cord Metal from circuit board Printer cartridges Batteries

So we encouraged the local community to bring their e-waste to our collection point

We found some strange gadgets too

What are the benefits of computer recycling? Reduces landfill space Creates less toxic chemical emissions Allows people to buy used computers at an affordable price Can be used as source of lead for other products Conserves energy use in manufacturing plants Provides useful donations for charity organizations
