What is AP? Advance Placement (AP) classes are college level courses, designed by The College Board. The College Board Students earn college credit if they pass the end of year test. 31 courses and 34 exams in 19 subject areas.31 courses

Why Participate? School –Allows students to excel in a field –Meets the needs of advanced students –Enrollment –Seen as more academic Student –Gives head start on college –Allows students to experience college- level studies – study habits –Motivates students in particular fields of study –Stand out in college admissions process

Calendar & Fees Some courses require summer reading before school begins January - Schedule your exam March 30 – Postmark deadline for Eligibility Forms May 3-7 – Exam dates Early July – scores released to students Fees - $82/exam

Scoring Of AP Exams Exams are given a 1-5 score. Many schools only grant credit to scores of 3-5, and some only 4-5. Some schools still require students to take school-based test even if the student received a 5 on AP exam. Not all schools except AP credit

Alternatives to AP Arrange with the college that serves your union to teach college level courses. This ties student to Adventist School Ties college to academy Not based on one day test Credit good at that college only, may be transferred to other Adventist colleges

Should You Teach AP? Pass rates vary from 45-85% Prep time is extreme If students are paying an additional fee and then fail… Does expand the course offerings May require additional resources/expenditures More resources about.html about.html
