Add Streaming Video to Library Catalog No need to buy new software No additional training of personnel Aggregate ALL the teaching resources into one search interface.

Typical AZ School Library Catalog IDEAL subscribers should be able to access all Discovery videos through one search interface along side other complimentary teaching resources. There is a DVD but is there also a streaming video available? In the current set up users must go to a new screen to answer this simple question, cutting into valuable lesson planning time.

Streaming video could be incorporated into the PUSD online catalog. Libraries are a great resource for teachers and students. The long-term, cumulative investment in library materials can be integrated with new online resources. Library as a space has simply moved beyond four walls, however it continues to be a one stop shopping location for reputable information. IDEAL subscribers streaming videowww.film.edu/nineoneone What if it could look like this

The online library catalog is able to accommodate to a variety of formats just as it always has: cassettes, films reels, CDROMs, photographs, audio books, e-books, and streaming video.

How does it work? Along with each new library acquisition, search and description data is added to a library database which users can search. Libraries have been building this search resource for 20 years. The search possibilities within the online library catalog is rich far beyond the reach of Google. Dont we want students to learn the difference between an arbitrary list and thoughtfully collected reputable resources?

Wheres the data for large subscription collections? Libraries, school districts, and universities subscribe to large and costly online collections. These new online collections do not replace the large investment of accumulated print materials nor should users be asked to spend precious time searching each online collection individually. All resources whether online or downtown should searchable from one location! Make the most of your investments, and upload search data to the online catalog.

I can provide it! Large sets of data can either be provided (if available) by the vendor or a cataloging service can prepare the data. Either way without the accompanying search data materials get lost in the soup of resources.

Link directly from the Library catalog! Provide a direct link to online resources. Utilize the online catalogs power to aggregate materials in the same subject.

Another way to display streaming video items added to the collection.

Search the school library catalog and retrieve all available resources: books, e-books, VHS, DVD, and streaming video! Reduce time investment of teachers and librarians and fully utilize all investments in teaching resources through a single search portal. For information, contact Amy Laurel. Were local!
