2 Destiny is the name of the Software that supports Library and Instructional resources throughout the district.  http://follett.fresnounified.org/ http://follett.fresnounified.org/ Currently on LAN only Quick Links on the HOME page Catalog allows: catalog search for site and district resources, Resource Lists, District IMC materials, have book reviews published.

3 Quick Links: Newspaper Library Wiki Library Blog Items can be added(resource lists, web links from teachers)

5  Individual login provides personalized searching: ◦ Login should be your first initial and last name…check the card provided on thr front of the your binder. ◦ Password is your Employee number.

7  When you log in you have the permissions of a Teacher in the district and site catalog ◦ The most important thing about this is you can “Book” materials from IMC online.

8 Basic Search: keyword, title, author, subject, series, barcode.(Webpath Express works along with the basic search for library materials)  Webpath Express is a search engine that provides reviewed web links for patrons when they perform a Basic search  Standards Search: awesome new tool for teachers Allows user to search for library material and Internet links that target specific CA teaching standards

9 Searching can be by Basic functions, or Advanced functions. Example of keyword: Webpath Express works in conjunction with a basic search.

10  Example of Standards search:  Choose our State and then look in our Library and/or FUSD’s IMC Media Center.  Search by Keyword, Subject and/or Grade.

15  Teachers can create Resource lists ◦ This allows you to make a list of specific materials for students or yourself (you can keep it private or make it public.  Examples:  Reading Lists  Topic/Homework Reading (Ebooks)  Research support  Curriculum Development

19  Copy Categories ◦ Books can be cataloged and put into “Copy Categories” ◦ These categories can help identify a certain type of book or can be used as a reading list. ◦ I can create copy categories with your name and subject for students to access  Examples:  Biography, Non-Fiction, Classics, Suggested Reading for a Course (let me know if you are interested).

20 Advanced search options are available: Power search allows Boolean searches, Visual allows for a more visual experience (EL students), Copy categories, or Dewey number.

21 Remember the Catalog is on the FUSD LAN, and is not assessable from any place other than a FUSD site.

22  Ebooks and Databases ◦ Much of our Reference material is available via the World Wide Web via either Ebooks or Databases. ◦ The Destiny site has the links as well as the Library wiki.

23  The Edison Library wiki is housed on the WWW. It is assessable wherever there is Internet available. This makes our Reference books that are available as EBooks available from anywhere in the world!  Edison High Library Edison High Library

25 Each database has unique log- in information. You will have to remember or paste the information.

26 Gale’s Powersearch (all 3 databases at once) widget allows a keyword search from the Library wiki:  Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL): Reference books that are available also in EBook format.  InfoTrac Allows students to search through Magazine, Newspaper, Journals and Transcripts  Opposing Viewpoints books and essays on modern issues that continue to create debate.  Bookmark articles or entire searches

27 Explore by Keyword, Title, or Topic: Marshall Cavendish is a reputable reference source:  My Folder option allows users to create a personal login to a folder that you can store articles in along with any notes you wish to take on the article.  Entire searches can be stored in the folder

28 Not just for Social Science! IIssues database covers many curricular topics AAnalyze and Explore topic options take students and instructors in an succinct path of topical exploration. LLinks to Primary Sources, Maps, Photos, Related Individuals, Court Cases TTeacher Login provided to search for links specific to State Standards and Textbook editions

29  Besides the IMC Library, FUSD maintains subscriptions to both Discovery Streaming and Nettrekker ◦ Discovery Streaming gives users access to thousands of video that can be downloaded in whole or part  Teachers: access lesson plans, quizzes and vocabulary for each video

30  Nettrekker is a school search engine that provides a safe way for students to surf the internet.  Teachers can utilize a Standards search to find websites that support individual curriculum standards.
