1. INTRODUCTION Dear Szent Benedek Secondary School Students! Imagine yourselves in the shoes of a foreigner, who wants to learn about Budapest, the city where you live in, and the natural and constructed beauties of Hungary. Your challenge is to catch their attention and show them why Hungary is a unique land in the world. All that is required is groupwork and creativity together with oral skills to present your masterpiece in Tallin in May, Your groups of three can present in English: posters, paintings, music, videos, present and past segments on any segment of a world heritage site which you visited recently.Tallin I wish you good luck on your journey that helps the journey of others who are curious about Hungarian culture and the landscape of the Carpathian basin.

2. THE MISSION POSSIBLE  The choice is all yours how to present Hungarian World Heritage of Budapest, Pécs, Hortobágy or Lake Fertő (in German Neusiedlersee). World Heritage of BudapestPécsHortobágyLake Fertő  In Budapest your choices include the Castle District, the Danube Embankment and the Andrássy Avenue.  In Pécs, the European Capital of Culture in 2010 the early Christian Necropolis.  In the Hortobágy National Park you can present the westernmost Eurasian steppe region.  At lake Fertő present Europe’s largest salt lake and its environment.

2. THE MISSION  Your presentation should involve all three participants of your group and be no more than 15 minutes.  You have many possible approaches at your disposal:  Artistic: act out a part of the World Heritage site’s history in costume or modern outfit  Scholarly: make a research and form a publication with visual aids on a individual, building, street, landscape, species of plant or animal and show why your choice is special to the world.  Movie oriented: You can make a cartoon, a documentary or a movie about your favourite World heritage site.  Naturalist, ecological: show how nature, flora and fauna, altered or remained intact in Hungary in our World Heritage.  Oral: write a short story or a poem, a piece of literature or music that describes your choice the best and act it out  Sensual: Give it all to the senses (food, costumes, parfume) specific to a region (Hortobágy, Fertő-Hanság) but be precise in documenting it.  Visual: make a poster, painting or collage using any material you consider appropriate.  All tools are welcomed as long as you bring a fresh and original point of view to the Hungarian world heritage sites.

3. THE PROCESS 1. Form three-some groups. 2. Decide which field you like most: scholarly, artistic, writing based, visual, speech-based, movie oriented or naturalist. 3. Brainstorm your ideas and write down the initial thoughts. 4. Choose the ideas which have the most accessible sources and are possible to finish on time. 5. Divide the tasks among yourselves (one does research, other does the visual parts and the third makes the music, or one describes and analyses the natural site, another argues for conservation and the other presents how tourism is supposed to utilise our natural wonders). 6. Have a thorough search on the internet and in the library before you make your work. 7. Discuss your work-in-progress once a week with your English and history teacher. 8. Set your deadline, the final versions have to be ready by 16 March, Then you have to present your creative work in front of the class, where the teacher and the class will decide about the best creations and performances. 10. Once you won, you can start packing your stuff for a trip to Tallin, Estonia and enjoy being there.

The presented project was good, had knowledge of the area covered and used properly the media and had a good quality English. The presented project was patchy, had some knowledge of the area and the media used and a below average quality English. The students divided the work and worked together and helped each other. The students could agree on sharing some work, at times helped each other. Students could not work together and the work is not complete. Students didn`t participate in the presentation to the same degree, the presentation was structured with a good command of English. Students shared the presentation at times, had a presentation with a below average English. 5. CONCLUSION  By the time you have finished your Comenius World Heritage project on Hungary, you might have learnt more about your working partners, about the techniques you used for your presentations and not least about the unique built and natural environment that surrounds you in Hungary.  It was also an aim to show your expertise in class and present your knowledge in an enjoyable and attractive way in English.  Once you mastered group work and presentation in English, in the future you will be able to research and share ideals that matter for you all over the world.  You might have also realised that the journey and experience has probably been at least as rewarding as your team’s final product.  Congratulations for all your activity, research and efforts!
