deep screening of Turn out with the help of T-28 Machine. Pankaj Gupta Sr.DEN/C/UMB

PRE REQUISITES a) Joint inspection of site by P.way, S&T and operating supervisors & preparation of joint note indicating traffic repercussions. b) Collection of adequate ballast for recoupment Ballast Filled Bags

Pre requisites contd.. c) Examination of site for shifting of existing turnout. d) Marking of stations at 4 m (say) Interval. Lateral distance

Pre requisites contd.. e) Measuring & recording of off sets at each marked station from the adjoining track/fixed structure for repositioning of T/Out at its original alignment. f) Replacement of broken /defective sleepers if any along with recoupment of missing fittings. h) Checking of TNC to TNC distance in case of cross over with respect to theoretical.

1. Imposition of S.R. of 20 KMPH. Pre Block Activities 1. Imposition of S.R. of 20 KMPH. 2. Cutting of rails ahead & rear of turnout for isolation. 3. Removal of Joggled fish plates if existing. 4. Replacing of J-Clips with ERC at removed Joggled Plate/ Glued Joint locations for enhancing Toe load.

Pre Block Activities contd…. 5. Removal of crib ballast. 6. Removal of clean shoulder ballast near by the site for re use.

Pre Block Activities contd…. 7.Ensuring relocation of cables/wire runs/ rod runs /S&T gears for free working of JCB Machines.

Requirement of man power & machines JCB Machines = 2 Tractor Trolley = 1 Man Power = 25 Black Smith Team = 1

Block Activities Positioning of T-28 machine on Turnout

Block Activities contd.... 2. Disconnection of S&T gears and clamping of switch to avoid damage/twisting. 3. Opening of F/Plates on approaches of T/Outs.

4. Shifting of T/Out by T-28 machine at pre decided location. Block Activities contd.... 4. Shifting of T/Out by T-28 machine at pre decided location.

5. Removal of muck/caked ballast with JCBs & leveling of formation. Block Activities contd.... 5. Removal of muck/caked ballast with JCBs & leveling of formation.

6. Putting of clean ballast up to desired level & leveling. Block Activities contd.... 6. Putting of clean ballast up to desired level & leveling.

Block Activities contd.... 7. Shifting back the turnout to its original position and connecting with approaches.

Block Activities contd.... 8. Aligning of T/Out with T-28 machine with reference to pre marked stations. 9. Removal of T-28 machine from the turnout . 10.Re-connection of S&T gears. 11.Putting of Ballast & manual packing.

Post Block Activities 1.Recoupment of crib & shoulder ballast .

Post Block Activities contd… 2. Required rounds of packing /tamping to remove the S.R. 3. Correction of Cess level & cross-slopes for drainage. 4. Profiling & dressing of ballast .

traffic block required S.No. Activities Time in Minutes Cumulative Time 1 Placing of T-28 machine, dis-connection of S&T and P.way gears. 25 2 Shifting of Turn out to pre decided location 35 60 3 Removal of muck & leveling 95 4 Putting of clean ballast & leveling 120 5 Shifting back of turnout & re – connecting with approaches. 50 170 6 Alignment of Turn out & removal of T-28 machine. 30 200 7 Re-connection of S&T gears, putting ballast and packing 40 240

Advantages Correction of TNC to TNC distance can be done if required. Deep screening as well as complete renewal can be done simultaneously. Deep screening of cross-over can also be done as can’t be done with BCM. Uniform formation of bed at desired level can be achieved.

Constraints Adequate space in nearby required for collection of ballast, removal of muck & shifting of T/Out. In case multiple lines block of adjoining lines is also required. Longer block i.e 4 Hours is required at one spell.

deep screening of Turn out with the help of road cranes Two Road cranes can also be utilized in lieu of T-28 Machine for Deep screening of T/Out . Advantages :- 1. Deep screening of T/Out will not be dependent on availability of T-28 Machine. 2. Work can be done on T/Outs having bunch of S&T rod runs and other gears where the traveling / working of T-28 Machine is not feasible .

Disadvantages :- Adequate space is required for propping of road cranes and placing of shifted T/out by this procedure . T/out could not be lifted/shifted with road cranes without providing suitable arrangement for proper holding the T/out at four points.

RECOMMENDATIONS Different divisions using different block duration for T-28 block, needs standardisation at HQ level to avoid bargaining with operating department.

Thanks
