Time management and Goal Setting Do you do either???

Learning Objective Identify the process involved in choosing short term or long term goals and explain how to achieve them.

Do you think you use your time well? Time Management How do you use your time? Do you think you use your time well? Do you ever feel like there are not enough hours in a day?

How are you spending your time? Activity: Can I have a volunteer? Let’s go through your day yesterday. Start at midnight. Hour by hour, lets fill in the pie chart. What are your goals? Is the way you spent your time yesterday working towards your goals? If you had more time, what would you do with it? Would your day be any different if it was a weekend day?

Time Management Activity: Create a pie chart just as we did with a volunteer with your own use of time from yesterday. Be honest with your time. Answer the questions we asked our volunteer.

What if I don’t know my goals? A goal is something you aim for that takes planning and work. It builds self-confidence, increases self-esteem and improves overall health. Can you think of some examples of goals?

Types of Goals Short-term goals – A goal you can reach in a short period of time, usually anywhere from a day or week to a month. Can you define some examples of short-term goals? Long-term goals – A goal you plan to reach over an extended period of time. Usually periods of a month, a few months or years. Can you define some long-term goals?

Action Plan to Achieving Your Goals Set a specific, realistic goal and write it down. List the steps you will take to reach your goal Identify sources of help and support Set a reasonable time frame for reaching your goal Evaluate your progress by establishing checkpoints Reward yourself for achieving your goal
