Give direction to your behavior Develop focus on the future. Goals are a way to measure your success. Goals can vary from easy to achieve to more challenging to achieve

5 Long-term and Short-term Goals
Time is an important element in the process of setting goals. Long-term Goals: a goal that you plan to reach over an extended period of time. Ex. learning to play an instrument, going to college These goals can take months or years to achieve Short-term Goals: is a goal that you can reach in a short length of time. Ex. cleaning your room, finishing HW. Setting and meeting a series of short-term goals can help you achieve a long-term goal.

6 Reaching your goal After you decide a goal you will need to create and follow a goal-setting plan Steps: Set a specific goal List the steps you will take to reach it Get help from others Evaluate your progress by setting checkpoints Reward yourself after you have achieved the goal

7 Written Response Which of the six steps of decision making process do you think is the most important? Why? Imagine your life 10 years from now, consider what you might be doing then and where will you be living? Write down some ideas, then answer the following: What are your long-term goals? What are vocational goals? How will you achieve these goals? List 5 current short-term goals you can work on? Pick one and create a goal-setting plan
