Just HOW important is learning another language? VERY IMPORTANT!

LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE? Why are you… Longer attention spans Makes you smarter Longer attention spans More job opportunities More aware of the world Better SAT verbal Better critical thinker For parents: briefly list the benefits… To do with students: Create a list on the board with the reasons students are learning language? You can create a banner with butcher paper with “WHY ARE YOU LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE?” Down the middle. Allow students to write their reasons on the banner. DISCUSS THE REASONS WITH THE GROUP… You can always Hang the banner in the room or in the hall outside your room to help build student ownership of learning. LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE? FAIL FORWARD! We do not get better if we do not try! This means we will make mistakes. What is important is not that we made a mistake but that we learn from it. If we did everything perfectly we wouldn’t ever learn! This is your opportunity to master failing forward!
