4 Content How ancient societies developed and affected modern day civilization Forming historical empathy Primary and secondary source documents Appropriate discussions and debates The class is organized thematically; focus is on how history is developed and what it can ultimately teach us

7 Classroom Routines Give Respect to Get Respect for both myself and my students (this includes towards each other; my class will be a safe haven for learning) Raise hands for questions and comments Wait until a break to throw away trash, sharpen pencil, etc. One student at a time for bathroom and water (need planner) Questions about grades are for lunch, before and after school

8 Academic Expectations
High rigor and high expectations Personal Responsibility I do not give grades, my students earn them Students will be expected to contribute to class lectures, discussions, and debates respectfully and appropriately Academic Integrity Policy

9 Homework Policy Main purpose is to check for understanding
Practice for Mastery I do offer late work for my students Within two days=50% Please encourage them to finish missed assignments!! Students with an excused absence have two days for every day they were gone to make up an assignment

10 Assessments Exams are not an emphasis in this class
History is not evaluated well by memorizing dates and figures Formal assessments = presentations, projects, class discussion, debates Quizzes used to measure understanding between units

11 Grading 35% for Homework 10% for Quizzes 25% for Projects 15% for Midterm 15% for Final Grades will be updated at the end of every week

12 Attendance Be on time Be there EVERYDAY Be Prepared
5 absences- parent notification 8 absences- warning notice 13 absences- loss of credit

Check IC regularly for grades and assignments Check homework for completion Ask about school Communicate with teachers and counselors IC app for your cellphone!
