What do Christians Believe? Cooperative learning – The Good Samaritan

Learning Intentions I am learning what Christians believe. I am exploring what I believe. Social Intention I am learning to listen carefully to my group members.

Success Criteria By the end of the lesson I can... Explain 3 key Christian beliefs are. Reflect on what I believe. By the end of the lessons I will have... Listened carefully to the members of my group.

Number off Person 1 is closest to the board. Number off clockwise round your table.

Voice on the table What is your favourite band/musical artist? What is one thing you have done recently that made you proud?

Team Builder Make up a group handshake. You have 5 minutes. Be prepared to share with the class.

Story Revision As a group you are going to tell the story of the Good Samaritan we have been learning. Person number one says one sentence to start the story. Person number two continues the story etc etc Continue round the group until you think the story is complete.

Christianity – what do Christians believe? Everyone in the group should give at least one idea. Person number 4 should be ready to share with the rest of the class what your group discussed.

Whiteboard work You will be given a question/some questions and each member of the group should individually think about their answer and write it on a whiteboard. One you are done, put your whiteboard face down to show you are ready to discuss. Once everyone has an answer, the group should discuss the question.

Part 1 What's the first question the expert asks Jesus? What does that question tell us about what Christians believe?

Part 2 It's like the expert is asking “How can I be a good Jew/a Christian?”. How would you answer that question? What do you think the expert was hoping Jesus would say? What did Jesus say?

Part 3 Christians believe they have to love God. Do you think the story says they have to love God a little bit or a big bit? Why?

Part 4 2nd question. What was it? What did he really mean? What would you say? What do you think the expert was hoping Jesus would say?

Part 5 What do you think Christians believe from this story? What are some of the Christian Values we can learn from this story?

What do you believe? Work in groups to complete a venn diagram to show what you believe from the statements I will read out.

What do I believe? Reflective sheet Individual work.

Class Builder

Learning Intention- Evaluation With your talking partner, each member of the pair needs to tell their partner a Christian value or belief they have learnt today. As a pair, see how many other Christian values/beliefs they can remember. Accountability – you might be asked to share your answers with the class.

Social Intention - Evaluation Reflect: 3. How well did you listen to your group members? 4. How well did the other members of the group listen to you? Secret fist to 5 – private reflection.

Thank your home team and time to tidy up!
