For each question tick the box that most reflects how you feel. Prepare for Learning For each question tick the box that most reflects how you feel. Be honest and try to answer quickly with your instincts...there are no right or wrong answers! Answer with what YOU think, not the person next to you.

Introducing the concept of a 'Growth Mindset' Take part in a lesson in which you: look at research which shows why this is important look at successful individuals who have shown a growth mindset practice promoting a growth mindset within themselves start to change their language from a fixed to a growth mindset

Carole Dweck PhD, Professor of Psychology at Stanford University. What is Growth Mindset?

How did making mistakes help you learn? Construct Can you think of a situation where you had to try many times in order to be successful? How did making mistakes help you learn?

Growth Mindset Language Expectations Expectations should focus on effort, improvement and resilience rather than solely on outcome and ability. Growth Mindset Language "This will be a challenging concept to learn but all of us can achieve it. I want you to aim high and stretch yourselves." Establish high expectations for ALL students. Research has shown this can increase motivation as students know that you are challenging because you believe they have the potential to complete the task.

Share your own mistakes with studnets - don't brush over them! Create a learning environment where students are not afraid to take risks. Fear and embarrassment of making a mistake can stop students from trying (Fixed Mindset - protect intelligence) Promote effort, challenge and mistake making as a valuable part of the learning process Share your own mistakes with studnets - don't brush over them! Review Activity - celebrate mistakes! What was your 'best mistake' today? How did this help you learn? Review Mistakes

Intelligence vs Process Praise Feedback and praise Intelligence vs Process Praise

Whilst you are completing the challenge...try to adopt a growth mindset. Try to think about how it makes you think and feel whilst you are working on the task. Use your 'Growth Mindset Talk' grid to help support each other and yourselves!

It is our responsibility as teachers to help promote a growth mindset in all of our students.
