French and Indian War By Mrs. Moore VS

Cooperation in the Colonies At first, Native Americans helped the colonist in Virginia and Plymouth by showing them how to plant crops like corn and tobacco. As more settlers from England moved to the New World, Native Americans resisted them for taking their land. The French and Native Americans worked together to trade fur. Not many French came to the New World, and those that came did not need much land, the French did not anger the Native Americans.

Conflict in the Colonies Native Americans were angry at colonists for taking their land. This caused many wars. The English and French both wanted the land in the Ohio River Valley. Many Native Americans fought on the side of the French against the British in the French and Indian War or 7 years War. Plantation Owners wanted to sell slaves and they pleased, and enslaved Africans began to rebel. These were called slave revolts

The French and Indian War The French and Indian War was fought between France and England over lands in Ohio River Valley which both the French and English claimed. The British won the war and gained control of these lands, but war is expensive and someone had to pay for it. Many Native Americans fought on the side of the French, but the Iroquois, Catawba, and Cherokee fought with the British and helped them defeat the French After the war the British government began to tax the colonies to pay for the war. http://www.history.com/topics/french-and- indian-war/videos

Causes Effects The Native Americans helped the colonists in the first years of settlement. The French and Native Americans had a good working relationship from fur trading. English Settlers wanted more land to build farms and towns. They began to move into the Ohio River Valley.

Causes Effects The British fought the French to gain control of the Ohio River Valley. Colonists believed it was their RIGHT to create taxes NOT the King or Parliament of England.
