The reason for doing the experiment. What do you want to know.

What is a purpose?

Another word for predict or infer. An educated guess.

What is a hypothesis?

Ways to test to find the answer to the problem Ways to test to find the answer to the problem. Also known as a trial or investigation.

What is an experiment?

May use your 5 senses to notice, know, or research about your subject.

What is observation?

Information you gather from tests (experiments /trials) that you do.

What is collect & analyze data?

The 1st thing you should do if something is spilled during a lab investigation?

What is “Tell the teacher”?

A precaution you should take after a lab investigation is complete.

What is wash your hands?

The last thing you should remove once all the equipment and chemicals are put away.

What are safety goggles?

The 1st thing you should do when something gets in your eye during an investigation.

What is “Tell the teacher”?

Needed in case of a fire.

What is a fire extinguisher?

Used to measure mass of two objects.

What is a balance scale ?

Most important piece of safety equipment.

What are safety goggles?

Used to measure boiling points and freezing points of temperature.

What is a thermometer?

Used to get an accurate measure of liquid using a meniscus?

What is a graduated cylinder?

Measures the mass of a large object.

What s a triple beam balance?

Used to organize a large amount of information.

What is a data table?

Uses bars as a visual way to compare data.

What is a bar graph?

Uses a line to show change, identify trends, and look at data points over a long period of time.

What is a line graph?

Used to show relationships between parts of data & a whole. Ex Used to show relationships between parts of data & a whole. Ex.-Percentage

What is a pie chart or circle graph?

Used to display locations and will need a key to help locate.

What is a map?

An experiment will tests the effects of only one change.

What is a variable?

Is a feature NOT changed in an experiment.

What is a controlled experiment?

Something that can be measured and observed from a hypothesis.

What is testable?

Means truthfulness of an investigation’s inference.

What is validity or valid conclusion?

What is representation of something in the natural world either 3-D or flat display.

What is a model? Physical Model is 3-D Conceptual Model ex. poster
