Behavior Class Dojo Students earn points for positive behaviors Parents can see their child’s points Our “behavior chart” will be online and not paper copies

First Grade binder Travels to and from school daily in backpack Important notes, graded papers to be kept at home, homework, reading journal, and parent communication section Please check nightly. Students check their own binders each morning.

Skyward Family access Parents can see grades, attendance, nurse info, discipline, schedules, etc. Parents/guardians can see their child’s lunch account balances, put money on the lunch account using a credit card, and see what purchases have been made from the account. Everyone should have their log-in information since online registration is required. You can download a Smartphone App for Skyward

Lunch 11:00-11:30 You are welcome to eat with your child- please meet us in the cafeteria. After lunch, please wait for your child’s class before walking him/her back to our hall. Please say goodbye to your child in the cafeteria or at the end of the hall instead of coming into the classroom.

School lunches are FREE this school year. Lunch cont… School lunches are FREE this school year. There will be a charge for adult lunches if teachers or parents purchase a tray.

Snack Please send snacks for the class at least once a month. There is no assigned snack calendar. Send enough every month for 22 students Snack option list provided Birthdays for the month will be celebrated on the last Friday of the month. Treats will be coordinated with the room mothers.

Absences and tardies Please call, email or send a note (parent or doctor) if your child is absent. If you are going to be absent for a trip or other planned reason, please send a letter to Mrs. Casey for approval before the absences occur. Students receive a Dojo point for each day they’re present. Points are redeemed for prizes.

grades Numeric grades will be given for Reading/Language Arts and Math only Letter grades will be given for Science, Social Studies, P.E., and Music *S (satisfactory)= 100-80 *N (Needs Improvement) = 79-70 *U (Unsatisfactory) = 69 or below

Absences and tardies cont… Students are counted tardy after 7:15 a.m. Parents must walk your child to the front office after 7:15 a.m. (Don’t drop them off and drive away!) If your child eats breakfast in the morning, please make an effort to drop them off with plenty of time to eat and get to the classroom by 7:15 a.m.

Homework Homework will be given weekly to reinforce skills learned. Check the homework folder in your child’s binder daily. Homework is listed on the weekly bulletin, but is subject to change. You will be notified of any homework changes during the week. I award Dojo points for homework. Points may be redeemed for prizes. Grades will not be taken on homework. Students need to read every night at home in their reading journals.

Saxon phonics LCE uses the Saxon Phonics program to teach reading, spelling and phonics. One method to help students read and decode words is called coding. We teach coding in first grade. The idea is to eventually have students read and spell words independently. Students will have spelling words each week and are tested on Fridays with a spelling test and oral phonics assessment.

transportation Transportation Department: (409) 670-4601 Call the school or send a note for any transportation changes! *Without a note or phone call notifying the school of a transportation change, your child will be sent home per his/her normal route. Transportation Department: (409) 670-4601

Transportation cont… Bus changes – Must be made through and approved by the district transportation department. Call for changes by 1:00 p.m. Also send a note or call the school to notify us of the bus number/address. Car rider dismissal – Parents must stay in their vehicles and wait for children to come to them. This is for the safety of the students. Children enter the car on the passenger side.

Transportation cont… Car Riders— write your child’s name on the tag provided. If you don’t have your tag, you will be asked to go to the front office. Place the tag in your car so that outside personnel sees your child’s name. Anyone else picking up your child must have a car tag, so you may need more than one car tag to keep in various vehicles. Pull all the way up to the line

Positive Behavior Intervention system (PBIS) Students earn tickets based on demonstration of one of six character traits. Tickets are drawn for weekly prizes and once per grading period for the “Mystery Prize Room” Bus and car riders may receive Bus Line Hero (gold) or Car Line Hero (white) tickets. Keep these in the student’s backpack and return them to school for prizes.
