Genre •A type of something •A category of something •A way of grouping things together MYSTERY POETRY

Fiction •Something that is not true •Something made-up

A book about a boy in high school Realistic Fiction •A story that is not true, but that could really happen •A story about something that seems real A book about a boy in high school

Historical Fiction •These are made-up stories that take place in a certain time during history. •These stories may include real people or settings from the past, even though the plot is not true.

Fantasy •For example: talking animals or magical powers •A fictional (untrue) story that includes elements that are impossible to happen in real life •For example: talking animals or magical powers

Science Fiction •A type of fantasy that uses science and technology in the plot •For example: robots, space travel, or time machines

Mystery •Stories that seem realistic and have a problem to be solved

Non-Fiction •Something that is true •Something that really did happen •Something that happens in real life

Poetry •Verse that is written to make the reader think and feel •It sometimes uses rhyme •It often looks different than the kind of writing you usually see in a book

Informational •Texts that provide facts about a variety of topics •Such as: sports, animals, science, history, careers, travel, geography, space, weather, and more!
