The School Day 8:45 – The doors open 8:55 - The school day starts 10:30 – Break 12:15 – Mile a day and lunch 1:15 – Afternoon lessons start 3:15 – End of the school day

Subjects Guided Reading taught 4 days a week English and Maths 5 days a week SPAG 3 days a week Arithmetic - 1 day a week ICT / French / Music – covered in PPA Games and Dance RE, Science, Healthy Minds Topic Story – 3 days a week

Responsibility Behaviour It is the responsibility of your child to remember equipment like their P.E. kit, pencil case and homework. Uniform expectations Encourage your child to be as independent as possible. Lockers Trays

Challenge for all During lessons, children are challenged regardless of their ability. Bronze, silver, gold, platinum Activities are differentiated in each lesson. Moving tables/groups Children are made aware of the expectations.

English English is taught in classes through Talk 4 Writing. Mixture of fiction and non-fiction writing. Includes reading, reading comprehension, writing and speaking and listening. Guided Reading is taught 4 days a week within groups in class. English skills are developed in all areas of the curriculum. SPaG

Maths Increased emphasis on applying maths skills to real life situations and problem solving. Arithmetic session weekly (Maths Marathon Miles). Cross curricular maths. Ability groups, monitored regularly. Sets may change if children are struggling or working particularly well.

Homework Spellings – given weekly on a Tuesday and tested on a Monday Maths – every other week English – every other week Log Book Task - twice a half term Reading: at least 3 times a week, recorded in diaries Homework Planners will be checked on a Monday – parent signatures needed

Homework - Reading Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week. You can read with your child, they can read to you, they can read independently or you can discuss what they have read. Children need to record the book and page numbers read in their planner, in the yellow section at the back. Responsible for changing own book. Children choose their own books – accelerated reader: class/library/home.

Homework - expectations Children do their best – maximum effort. Parents sign homework planners. We will mark the work promptly and return If homework is not brought into school by Tuesday, children will stay in at lunchtime to complete their homework. Homework club

SATs Outcomes Pupils will sit a reading test, two SPaG tests, two maths reasoning tests and an arithmetic test. Pupils will need to demonstrate that they are reaching all of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to be meeting the national expectations. School website

Rewards Star of the Week Head teacher's award - for high quality homework, consistently good behaviour etc. Gold Book - when a child completes a piece of exceptional class work. Values tokens Bronze, Silver, Gold Zones Star of the Half Term Star of the year Head Teacher star of the year

Useful reminders Water Bottles – named with a non-spill lid. Fruit – break time snack. Art shirts – named. PE kits – should be in school every day. Earrings – your child’s responsibility. They must be removed or taped for PE lessons. For parents and pupils who are interested the meeting about the River Dart trip is Monday 25th Sept 4pm.
