R-ESC

ESA SSA SWE Network Space Situational Awareness (SSA) program Space Weather Segment (SWE) Goal: develop a system that provides space weather services to end users Bring together European expertise and assets in a federated approach distributed over five Expert Service Centres (ESCs) SSA SWE Coordination Centre (SSCC) is the first line of support for end-user with second line support from the ESCs

Expert Service Centre for Space Radiation (R-ESC) Coordinated by the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy: Coordinator: Norma Crosby Deputy: Mark Dierckxsens Network of 8 Expert Groups providing products 5 Consultants providing specific expertise http://swe.ssa.esa.int/space-radiation

R-ESC Products Variety of products: Access to existing tools Datasets and interpretation: levels, comparison with standard models, alerts, … Utilize models to provide nowcast/forecasts Development of statistical models R-ESC development needs and gaps are identified in various ways: interactions with SWE network, user test campaigns, thematic workshops, asset reviews, network review, … Most gaps are in real-time data, nowcasts and forecasts of environment and their effects. The focus of R-ESC product development should be on R2O. Standard APIs and data formats are needed to improve the network. Improved presentation towards the end user needed.

Other R-ESC activities Mission operations plans and procedures Defining key performance indicators (KPIs) including measures to monitor the evolution of the SWE network Setting up product provision monitoring User test campaigns Common guidelines for validation Provide recommendations for standard interfaces, data formats, system design Requirements tracing throughout the network Provide input to SWE portal pages …

Conclusions ESA SSA is developing a space weather system to provide services tailored to the end users Approach based on federated services and assets in SSA Participating States A variety of products have been included and developed as part of the R-ESC We welcome suggestions for future developments within the R-ESC domain
