Outline Background Goals and Objectives Progress to date

Background AI outbreak in 2004: temporary database created containing contact information for producers After the outbreak, database given back to 4 poultry boards to maintain with current information AI event 2005: determined that identifying farms by address was not sufficient for mapping purposes Moving forward: Premise ID Initiative

BC Poultry Premise ID Goals Industry-led initiative (government supported) Goals: To accurately, efficiently and uniquely identify all commercial BC poultry premises and barns while working towards full chain traceability To instill confidence in our stakeholders regarding our preparedness in a foreign animal disease situation

What is Livestock Traceability? Includes 3 main elements: 1.Animal identification (group) 2.Premises identification 3.Movement tracking

Premise ID Initiative- Objectives To have a secure central database that contains accurate premise and barn identification and contact information for all commercial BC poultry premises and barns To create a system and process for poultry producers outside of the regulated system to register their poultry premises To ensure the process and database is concurrent with national initiatives (CCIA/ CLIA)

Premise ID Initiative- Objectives To assign a national alpha-numeric ID to all premises and barns To physically identify the premises and barns with highly visible signage with the national Premise ID To work and communicate with various stakeholders towards the common goal of Emergency Preparedness

Premise ID Initiative BC Poultry Industry Biosecurity and Emergency Response Strategic Plan ( ) Goal 2: the BC poultry industry has an emergency response management plan in place to handle an infectious disease outbreak, by 2007 Requires all farms and other required locations to be included in a database by Dec 31, 2006

Mapping GIS technician (Dave Jackson) hired May 15 to map premises and sub-premises using orthophotos Abbotsford: 218 premises, 807 sub-premises Chilliwack: 105 premises, 329 sub-premises Lower Mainland, then Island and Interior Premise ID Initiative - Progress

Premise ID Initiative - Progress

Signage Premise: parcel of land Installed at barn driveway Sub-premise: barn / hatchery Installed on main barn door Ex. Double decker, have -01 and -02 numbering Premise ID Initiative - Progress

Centralized Database Project goal- integrate into Canadian Livestock Tracking System (with CCIA) Delayed development due to customization to meet needs of poultry industry In interim, temporary access database Premise ID Initiative - Progress

Timelines Mapping- end of August Signs- end of December Centralized Database- end of December FADES exercise Winter Premise ID Initiative - Progress
