The Downs School English Department Edexcel GCSE English Examinations Students will receive two separate GCSEs in English: English Language and English Literature English Language Paper 1- Fiction and Imaginative Writing (1hour 45 minutes) 40% of GCSE Paper 2- Non-Fiction and Transactional Writing (2 hours 5 minutes) 60% of GCSE Spoken Language Endorsement (presentation in school) 0%* Paper 1 Paper 2 Fiction and Imaginative Writing Non-Fiction and Transactional Writing Section A- Reading: questions on an unseen 19th century fiction extract Section A- Reading: questions on two thematically linked, unseen non-fiction texts Section B- Writing: a choice of two writing tasks. The tasks are linked by a theme to Section A. 64 marks available= 40% of GCSE 96 marks available= 60% of GCSE

The second task is focused on how a theme reflected in the extract is explored elsewhere in the play. Section A- 19th Century Novel: a two part questions, with the first part focussed on an extract of approximately 400 words. The second part is an essay question exploring the whole text. Section B- Post-1914 British play or novel: One essay question. Section B- Poetry: Part 1 compares a named poem from the Pearson Poetry Anthology collection with another poem from that collection. Key Exam Information Our Exam Board is AQA Students will sit three papers, 2 Calculator and a Non-Calculator Paper Each paper will last 1 hour 30 minutes, and is worth 80 marks [roughly a mark a minute!]

Revision Resources: Key Facts We have produced ‘Key Facts Lists’ for both tiers. Students need to be able to recall these facts accurately and quickly in an exam. Spot-testing their knowledge regularly would be an excellent strategy at home.

Biology, Chemistry, Physics New AQA 2018 GCSE Science Trilogy and Separate: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Two options: Single Science and Trilogy 9-9 9-8 8-8 8-7 7-7 7-6 6-6 6-5 5-5 5-4 4-4 4-3 3-3 3-2 2-2 2-1 1-1 Combined GCSE is a double award, you will be awarded two grades. A grading scale with 17 possibilities will be used. Three separate grades are awarded.
