Objectives Develop a sense of intercultural competence that accounts for self-identity and understanding of others Mapping your institution on micro, meso, and macro levels to better understand the people with whom you work Providing opportunities to develop knowledge and skills around this topic Goals of session

Mapping Ourselves (Micro Level) Who are you? Individual Brainstorm

(e.g. faculty rank, departmental/disciplinary affiliations, demographic/personal identity characteristics) Individual Brainstorm Individually brainstorm (2 minutes) Who are your audiences? (Chart for their audience brainstorming might include faculty rank/institutional affiliation, demographic/personal identity characteristics, ….)  What are issues (internal/external) are relevant for them? (Chart for issues might include campus, community, national, global impacts)

Reflection on Mapping and Moving to Action Individual reflection prompts Think about your identities and how your identities might interact with issues on your respective campus. What are the opportunities and challenges based on who you are and who your audience is? What are your areas of strength and expertise and knowledge gaps? Individual Reflection (5 minutes) Think about yourself, and how your identities might interact (confirm or conflict) with issues on your respective campus. What is your positionality in relation to these issues (insider/outsider, victim, instigator, political/cultural/identity alignment, etc….)? What are the opportunities and challenges based on what you bring to the table and who your audience is and what they are navigating on your campus? What are your areas of strength and expertise and where are your knowledge gaps about the identities and issues you are navigating at your institution?
